Shakuntala Devi

So what is 14525686 * 124762048 = ???????.......the time taken for understanding this equation is proportional to time taken by this brilliant lady to answer it.

“Shakuntala Devi” is an OTT release over Amazon Prime featuring Vidya Balan as the lead actress. The viewers on Amazon have increased since then. The movie is a biography of an Indian lady who was also known as the “HUMAN COMPUTER”. The movie is a perfect blend of laughter and emotion, the comic timing, acting, dialogues and more so the importance of family has been depicted beautifully.

The movie can be summarized into three parts. The first one involves the hardships faced by Shakuntala as a child, the way she recognizes her inner talent and taking up shows school to school to make a livelihood for her family. She drops her formal education at a young age and slowly starts developing hatred for her parents because of her family circumstances.

The second part mainly features her escape to London to pursue her love for mathematics. She takes up stage shows and soon becomes a star. However, she leaves her family behind. She soon gets married and is blessed with a beautiful baby girl. However, love for mathematics takes a toll and her relationship with her husband and daughter gets hampered. The third and the most important part features the turmoil between family. An amazing presentation of mother and daughter bonding and relationship.

Vidya Balan as the lead actress is nothing short of exemplary. Every scene has been mastered beautifully and it shows her versatility with comic timing and aggression at the same time. Saniya Malhotra as her daughter too has played her part to perfection. Rest of the cast and crew too fits smoothly. The direction is seemingly well and situational songs give this movie an edge.

The best part portrayed by this movie is one where you understand that name and fame might make you rich but family love is something which is not something to be compromised upon. The moment Shakuntala realizes her mistake towards her parents it is too late as they are no more. When the same situation arises between her and her daughter the tables take a turn for the worse.

The movie focuses on her journey both professionally and personally. The numbers are shown dancing in front of Shakuntala’s eyes and we as viewers feel the same joy. Certain dialogues like the one which speaks that ‘koi mother kabhi perfect nhi ho skti’ hits you hard about sacrifices made by a mother.

PS – ‘Add your family, subtract your ego, multiply your joy and divide your sorrows – a perfect blend of mathematics equation’.

Even someone who hates maths will love this movie to the core. A good weekend watch and most importantly a complete family entertainer. Do watch this with your family, you will leave with much more love and respect for them once you are through with this movie.

Dil Bechara

“Dil Bechara” movie based on the novel by John Green which was also adopted into a movie by name ‘The Fault in our Stars’. Most of the people are watching and remembering this movie just because it is last known movie in which our beloved Sushant Singh Rajput has made his onscreen presence. But the movie itself is pure class and takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride.

The movie is told from the point of view of Kizzie Basu (played by Sanjana Sanghvi) who is struggling with thyroid cancer and has very few friends to boast off. The actual fun begins when we see Manny (played by Sushant Singh Rajput) dancing to the tune of title song. The moves leave you in awe and the song itself is master piece composed by our very own A.R.Rahman. The whole song was done in a single take and damn Sushant is amazing.

Manny is a lively personality who believes in living life to the fullest despite the inevitable circumstances facing death. The chemistry between Manny and Kizzie is superb and you admire the way two banter and how that turns into love. The little moments of flirting, romance and selfless care dramatically folds you and you are left in tears by the end. You admire the way Manny does everything to fulfill one dream of Kizzie despite all the odds. That’s what life is all about – what difference you can make in others life. The short span of happiness soon turns into sorrow as both are found struggling to stay alive with cancer.

Sushant as Manny is a performance you will remember for a long long time. Dialogues, acting and powerful dance moves all compliment his lovely smile. Would have been great if he could hear all the praise he is getting and the difference he has made with his short but fruitful career on this Bollywood world.

Sanjana Sanghvi compliments well and she surely has a great future ahead. A perfect blend of beauty with acting. Sahil Vaid as Manny’s friend is great and equally comical. Saif Ali Khan has played a small yet a role which gives a valuable lesson. Mukhesh Chhabra has been sublime with his direction and casting – Sushant being the proof. The songs are damn good and each song has a different persona and charm with ‘Dil Bechara’ title track and ‘Main Tumhara’ being the best. The dialogues are one of the best you have come through in recent times.

The movie is of short duration and the emotional impact is a lot to take. Few scenes are worth remembering like the ones where Manny is listening to his own Eulogy. The movie if released in theatres would have created havoc. The movie is sure to leave you in tears and the fact that Sushant is no more with us impacts you more. A star was lost too soon.

The movie is streaming free on Hotstar and a great gesture by them to make it available to everyone in memory of Sushant Singh Rajput. Grab you popcorn and tissues as well, because this one is sure to touch your heart and soul like no other movie.

"Perhaps, the difference between what is miserable, and that, which is spectacular, lies in the leap of faith"- Sushant Singh Rajput

The Lord of the Rings : The Return of the King

“The Lord of the Rings : The Return of the King” is the third and final part of the trilogy. The movie was released in 2003 back to back after first and second part. After the immense success of the franchise, there were high expectations for the movie to end on a high note and it indeed satisfied the viewers. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s book, the movie continues from where it left in the prequel with all characters playing their part in destroying the ring which holds the key to power.

Frodo and Sam on their journey to Mount Doom in Mordor team up with Gollum. The rift between them widens and tensions arise as they part their ways only to meet again in a much different situation. The ring indeed is full of deceit attacking everyone who has hunger for power. You feel pity for what the ring has done to Gollum but also praise the fact that Sam and Frodo stick to each other. Friendship is rather a powerful weapon which we see through the movie as Sam and Frodo help each other throughout. Other side of the story, you find Aragorn, who finally accepts his fate as the King rather than being a Ranger.

If the battle at Helm’s Deep excited you, just wait and watch for this one. The fight, the monsters, the effect, words of wisdom, courage everything exceeds our expectations. The part is full of darkness and but surely ends in a different way. Sam and Frodo fight against each other because of Gollum, the ring hanging in balance. Sam is seen in agony with the ring taking a toll on him. The fight of all the free men in Middle Earth against the dark evil is one of the most satisfying displays of action sequences.

Peter Jackson makes a noteworthy exit for the trilogy.  No doubt it deserved every bit of 11 Academy Awards it received including the Best Movie. The acting as described in my earlier review of first part is superlative. The direction, music, cinematography, location for shoot - everything is just perfect.

(If you haven’t gone through the review of previous two parts, go through our blog)

The movie moves ahead and reaches a bitter sweet conclusion! A noteworthy mention to the CGI effects used and a new technology motion capture work. Another IMDB classic and if you have survived the earlier two parts this is a must watch. An age old classic with great story, better direction and the best execution makes this a treat for every fantasy lover.

The movie is again 3 hours long, but once you set in motion, the movie ends like a whisker. Available on Netflix as well as Hotstar, just go ahead and don’t miss this acquaintance of the fantasy realm of LOTR. This is icing of the fantasy cake.

This first part focused on the ring and the character of Sauron, the deceit and his hunger for power while the second part brings other characters in development and also defines power on the good side. The final part ends the evil but not without sacrifice. A lot has already been spoken and number don’t lie so the positive reviews of this trilogy makes this a must watch. A worthy end to the series and one of those movies that beats its prequels in every aspect.

The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers

“The Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers” is the second part of the trilogy. The movie was released in 2002, one year later after the first part. After the success of the first part, there were high expectations from the sequel and boy it delivered massively. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s book, the movie continues from where it left in the first part with all characters playing their part in destroying the ring which holds the key to power.  The director and producer have left no stone unturned to make this an epic saga.

The anecdote continues with Frodo and Sam on their journey to Mount Doom in Mordor. On their way they find Gollum, who deceits them and tries to break their friendship to attain the ring. You feel pity for what the ring has done to Gollum but also praise the fact that Sam and Frodo stick to each other. Friendship is rather a powerful weapon indeed. Other side of the story, you find Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas continue their quest to help the city of Rohan and fight against Sarumon. Merry and Pippin meet Treebeard and bring the fight to Isildur.

Okay a lot of characters to remember, but if you have watched the first part you know all of them. And indeed, second part is worthy and gives total justice to its name. The part is full of darkness and ends that way. Sam and Frodo fight against each other because of Gollum, the ring hanging in balance. The fight at the Helm’s Deep is one of the most satisfying displays of action sequences. Considering 2002, it surely gives you goosebumps.

Peter Jackson makes a noteworthy entrance for Gandalf – the Wandering wizard who had fallen and which seemed an end to his character. The acting as described in my earlier review of first part is superlative. The direction, music, cinematography, location for shoot - everything is just perfect.

(If you haven’t gone through the review of first part, go through our blog)

The movie moves ahead and reaches a bitter sweet conclusion with plot laid for third and final part of the trilogy! A noteworthy mention to the CGI effects used and a new technology motion capture work was first used during this movie. This involves computer generated character being brought to life – ones used in Avatar. Hence, it was a turnaround.

Another IMDB classic and if you have survived the first part this is a must watch. An age old classic with great story, better direction and the best execution makes this a treat for every fantasy lover.

The movie is again 3 hours long (4 hours in extended version), but once you set in motion, the movie ends like a whisker. Available on Netflix as well as Hotstar, just go ahead and don’t miss this acquaintance of the fantasy realm of LOTR.

This first part focused on the ring and the character of Sauron, the deceit and his hunger for power while this part brings other characters in development and also defines power on the good side. A lot has already been spoken and number don’t lie so the positive reviews of this trilogy makes this a must watch.

The Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring

“The Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring” is the first part of the trilogy. To begin with its been more than 20 years since the movie released and created a havoc. But at last after watching it I understand why this trilogy holds a special place in hearts of the people. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s book of the same name, the movie stands on the same page with it and director and producer have gone lengths and bounds and left no stone unturned to make this an epic saga.

The anecdote begins with a land where Men, Elves, Dwarfs and Hobbits leave peacefully. Frodo Baggins played by Elijah Wood inherits a mysterious ring from his uncle which is the source to all power. This ring crafted by the Dark Lord Sauron himself is full of deceit and treacherous enough to bend anyone’s mind who wants to gain power. Thus the foundation is laid for a journey to destroy the ring and defeat Sauron once and for all.

Accompanied by other fellows (that’s where the name of the movie is derived from) including Gandalf – the Wandering wizard played by Ian McKellen (famous for the role of Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter franchise) and other hobbits and a men, a elf and a dwarf, Frodo sets on a rather hopeless mission to destroy the ring in the Mount Doom in Mordor – enemy’s own land.

The dark lord is very powerful and all of the races must units in order to survive and defeat him. The movie involves more than just action, it is full of emotions. Will Frodo survive and destroy the ring?? More importantly will he be able to resist the power of the ring??? Will the crew stay just and true to the mission??? Lots of questions that needs answering….Watch out for LOTR !!!!

The cast which is very huge has done total justice and no parts could be played better. The direction by Peter Jackson is stupendous and this fantasy drama will surely blow your minds. The shots have been mainly filmed in New Zealand and the trilogy was shot back to back with first movie being released in 2001. The costumes are original and the most important thing about this movie being CGI effects have been kept to minimum. There is a lot to boast about the movie.

Dating back to 2001, the movie may still give competition to today’s movie in every aspect. It just not happens every day that you get such movies which have been in top 200 IMDB movies. An age old classic with great story, better direction and the best execution makes this a must watch for every fantasy lover.

The movie is 3 hours long and with trilogy, it makes a 9 hours journey. But once you set in motion, there is no turning back. Available on Netflix as well as Hotstar, just set out on a mission of yourself to get acquainted with this fantasy realm of LOTR.

This movie only focuses on the ring and the character of Sauron, the deceit and his hunger for power. A special mention for character of Smeagol aka Gollum – plotting evil and constantly repeating “My Precious”…!!!

A lot has already been spoken and number don’t lie so the positive reviews of this trilogy makes this a must watch.

Panga

‘Panga’, movie based on sports and more importantly the dreams of a mother. It is a delight for sports lovers and our very own ‘Queen’ is back with more emotions and class apart acting.

The movie begins with a common middle class family comprising of mother, father and their only son. Jaya played by ‘Kangana Ranaut’ was at peak in Kabaddi and the best raider and Captain of Indian National team as well. But her love life and motherhood forced her to sacrifice her love for the game. She ended up giving her love for Kabaddi and went on to live her normal life.

Few years down the lane, precisely 7 years later, when her son finds out that her mother was an all time great but surrendered her dream, he encourages her to make a comeback at the age of 32. This drama which started just to please her son, ended up motivating her to actually make a comeback to National team. But with her speed and agility decreasing with her age will she able to cope up with young blood?? Does she get a chance to represent India?? Watch out for ‘Panga’….!!!

Kangana is the best in whatever she portrays. You can hate her or lover her but you can’t ignore her onscreen presence. She is the lead of the film displaying variety of emotions, spirit, motherhood and love for her family. Just a delight to watch and probably the best female actress in Bollywood at present.

The surprise package of the film are the duo of father and son. The witty one liners of the movie will surely give your belly a tickle. Richa Chadda as supporting cast is outstanding. Her language and dialogue delivery is to the point.

(Tthe dialogue in movie – “A mother has no right to see any dreams. If she does so, she is a cruel mother” – will definitely make you realize the sacrifice made by parents in one’s life)

Jassie Gill, Punjabi actor with debut in Bollywood has done justice to the role. The film displays everything right from importance of mother in daily life to importance of personal dreams in one’s life. Ashwini Iyer’s direction is just precise with proper narration and straight forward storyline. The music is soothing and as described the casting is perfect. The drama does become predictable at the ending.

The climax scene will definitely get you clapping. It is of same genre as ‘Chak De India’ but a little more predictable. However, it does give a message like all other Kagana movies. ‘Never ever sacrifice your dreams. Always give it a shot. Trying is better than regretting.’

A watchable movie with straight forward story line and jam packed emotions makes this a family entertainer and a must watch the understand the importance of mother and dreams.

Even if you have missed this in theatres, it is available on Hotstar. Just sit back, grab your popcorn and enjoy this delightful ride of ‘Panga’.

The Old Guard

‘The Old Guard’, as the name suggests is a movie which is based on Immortals – to be specific Guardians who protect the humanity. The movie is released as a Netflix Original and as per trend, is the latest addition to the OTT platform. Action genre movie which totally justifies the name.

The backdrop of movie is laid right from the beginning where four Immortals who have the healing capacity are found compromised in a mission. These Immortals have been in existence for decades and centuries. They have protected human generation time and again. These so called Immortals have healing capacities. During, one such mission, they find that their little secret is exposed.

The Immortals are linked to each other and can dream about each other. This is when they get to know a new addition to their little family. But is the new one ready to accept this fate??? Also, they themselves are in trouble as their secret is exposed to a CEO of pharmaceutical company who wants to create a drug to immortalize the humans by capturing these mercenaries. Too much even for the ‘Immortals’ to handle. Watch out this gem to know whether Immortals keep their freedom intact. If yes, at what cost.

(A little secret – immortals don’t always stay the same. Over a period of time their healing power deteriorates to such a phase, where they can no longer heal themselves) Interesting right…!!!

Charlize Theron, who has played the role of ‘Andy’, leader of the group is perfectly suited for the role. It’s as if the role was drafted for her only. Action sequences are done brilliantly with finesse. Everything about her in the movie is nothing short of perfection. (Not to forget she is drop dead gorgeous and an Academy Award winner – justifies her superb acting).

Kiki Layne as ‘Nile’ has supported Charlize Theron splendidly. Their chemistry on screen is that of elder sister/ younger sister. The emotions displayed are beyond imagination. All the other character and cast have played their part as well to make this one memorable. Just a mention for the antagonist, the villain doesn’t really scare and his presence is not really felt on screen. For someone of the caliber of Charlize Theron, the antagonist should have been someone of her capability.

The background score and direction is admirable. However, the lyrical music does not blend with scenes. While watching action scenes verbal music kind of distracts you. Other than that, just sit back and enjoy this masterclass. The action scenes have wide angle and are stably shot, giving the viewer a fine experience.

Probably second movie of 2020, after ‘Extraction’ which justifies the action and fight sequences. One special mention is for the use of CGI effects. Though being of superhero genre, the effects have been kept limited. After a fine Avengers collection, this superhero movie is different on the grounds which is more realistic yet superficial.

Plot has been laid for sequel, which is common anecdote now-a-days. Would love the see the history of these immortals as to how they were created and individual stories as well in the sequel version. A watchable movie with straight forward story line and action packed sequences (especially the one inside the aeroplane). Kudos to Charlize Theron for pulling off such a character at the age of 44.

Just sit back, grab your popcorn and enjoy this delightful ride of ‘The Old Guard’. I am sure you will crave for second part as I am while writing this review.

The Mentalist

Mentalist (noun): someone who uses mental acuity, hypnosis and/or suggestion; a master manipulator of thoughts and behaviour.

We have all wondered about one thing, how to read someone’s mind. Haven’t we? We all have tried it. But only very few have somehow managed to master the art of mind reading. Those few who have actually mastered this art, if honest, would agree that there is no such thing as mind reading. Not in the usual way we think they do. The Mentalist as a TV series is a must watch for you if you wish to get some hint about how the real mind reading is done.

The Mentalist is a psychological procedural suspense thriller TV series created by Bruno Heller that has been crafted out of the fine fabrics of general and criminal psychology. The craftmanship behind this fine piece of art has gone beyond the usual standards of excellence in entertainment on many dimensions, viz, cinematography, screenplay, plots, casts, location selection, storytelling, directional creativity and above all, background score by Blake Neely.

The entire series is based on the persona of the protagonist, Patrick Jane, who is a mentalist, the mentalist. Starting from the pilot, up to the eighth episode of the sixth season, the series tries to identity a dreaded dark power called “Red John” who happens to be a serial rapist and killer that never leaves any loose ends. Given the sheer brilliance of Jane in solving murder mysteries using subtle clues to which his mind acts like a magnet, you’ll find that Red John always happens to be a step ahead of him. And this Red John character is so hideous that you are bound to develop an awful appreciation for him no matter how much you detest him. And if you believe in God, then you will be perplexed by the theme of the series which is based on the poem “The Tyger” by William Blake. If God is right and he created the devil just like he created the saint, why is it wrong if the devil eventually wins?

There are seven seasons. Each of the first six seasons have about twenty-two episodes more or less. The seventh one has only thirteen. Each episode is about forty minutes give or take. So, before you start with the pilot episode, do your math. Because, you won’t be able to kill the urge to watch the next one after you watch one. Although every episode begins with a new murder case and ends with its closure, it is an indispensable part of the chain of events leading to the unravelling of the dark. Or should I say the unravelling of the light? After all light owes its existence to darkness, doesn’t it?

Dark - Season 3

DARK – Season 3 is a German web-series which was released over Netflix. It is sequel to the 1st two seasons with same name and is the final nail in the coffin. The series ends on a high note. The story continues from where it left and this season definitely hits you hard at right spot both in mind and heart.

The story comes to a satisfying conclusion and answers most of the questions. As show casted in previous two seasons, it continues to bend your mind in ways where you feel what more can be done to keep you hooked. The theme remains the same but everyone is trying to achieve their personal agenda, be it Adam, Eve or Claudia (you will understand the characters once you start watching). However, beginning is the end is what the story comes to, a full circle linking the first season with the third season.

But no matter what you do, you will find yourself stuck in a never ending loop of time. This season specifically has episodes spanned over a century with continuous shift between the various years. Based on a town name Winden, the 8 episode series finale is beautifully depicted. The story continues from where it left with Jonas vanishing along with Martha (who comes from a parallel world).

The weirdness and mind boggling story leaves you in awe of the script writer. With not many new characters, it is pretty easy to identify all of them after watching first two seasons. The best thing is story has developed which is totally new from any genre and also the ways in which it has been linked portraying the characters.

(Kindly go through reviews of Season 1 & 2 before getting hooked with Final Season).

The story gets complicated with characters spanning over century and continuous shift and one won’t like that after a hectic days work. So a definite watch for the weekend. The direction and background music is perfect and go hand in hand. The suspenseful music adds to the flavor. The actors have been exceptional. Both the main leads are themselves the antagonist, with time being the supporting devil as well as God. When you play with course of time, there is no big barrier then TIME itself.

The original version in German but despite being a language barrier, the series does not disappoint you in any way. The name ‘Dark’ totally coincides with the gloomy scenes and most of the shots being in rain. The story has all the elements of anger, mystery, suspense, romance, time travel, betrayal and most importantly an out of the box plot. This is not everyone’s cup of tea as people may find it too slow & boring. But this one will definitely be a series that catches one’s eye. So you will watch it sooner or later.

If you have completed season 1 & 2, this season will definitely have an impact on you and leave you thrilled. The ending itself is sublime with long lasting effect on the viewer. The 3rd and final season unlike many other web-series, has beautiful ending.

Connecting the different segments of season 1 and season 2 is very important in order to be able to enjoy ‘Dark’. You might need pen and paper to jot down everything, that’s the level of craziness involved..

This series will not ooze that action sequences or fighting scenes like other flicks, but will definitely get you puzzled. If you haven’t watched ‘Dark’, go through review of Season 1 and Season 2 on our blog. It will definitely leave you binged.

Dark - Season 2

DARK – Season 2 is a German web-series which was released over Netflix. It is sequel to the first season with same name. The series gets meaner and darker and totally justifies the name. The story continues from where it left with season 1 with Jonas being trapped into future.

The story which is based on a theme that ‘Past, Present and Future are all linked in mysterious ways’, continues to bend your mind in ways where you feel what more can be done to keep you hooked. The theme remains the same but everyone is trying to achieve their personal agenda. Some are trying to find their loved ones, some are trying to stop an apocalypse and some are just envy of others.

But no matter what you do, you will find yourself stuck in a never ending loop of time. The series is based on a town named Winden and this season contains future happenings as well. ‘Jonas’ who accidentally ends up 33 years into future realizes that a nuclear blast wiped out most of the population of Winden. Thus the saga begins back and forth into past and future to avoid the apocalypse.

The weirdness in this season reaches new heights. Your science knowledge will be put to test along with how exceptional is your memory power to identify the characters. With past and present all being intertwined, imagine yourself fighting an evil spirit, which later turns out to be your older self. This is when series takes a turn for the worst. The story has been beautifully drafted with help of the scientific concepts of time paradox, wormholes and time loop.

The time travel has been portrayed to one’s satisfaction. However, at times it becomes difficult with theme switching between past, present and future. The direction and background music is perfect and go hand in hand. The suspenseful music adds to the flavor with acting being mediocre at times. Some characters are useless with story revolving around other few, being the main leads. The main lead itself is the antagonist, with time being the supporting devil as well as God. When you play with course of time, there is no big barrier then TIME itself.

The original version in German is highly recommended, with English version being a little dull. The name ‘Dark’ totally coincides with the gloomy scenes. The story has all the elements of anger, mystery, suspense, romance, time travel, betrayal and most importantly an out of the box plot. This is not everyone’s cup of tea as people may find it too slow & boring.

If you have completed season 1, this season will definitely have an impact on you and leave you thrilled. The ending itself is sublime with long lasting effect on the viewer. The 3rd and final season will be the one to look out for.

Connecting the different segments of season 1 and season 2 is very important in order to be able to enjoy ‘Dark’. Definitely watchable but not everyone will be able to watch it through because of its genre and pace.

This series will not ooze that action sequences or fighting scenes like other flicks, but will definitely get you puzzled and leave you uneasy for gripping Season 3 finale.

If you haven’t watched ‘Dark’, go through review of Season 1 on our blog. It will definitely leave you binged.

Gulabo Sitabo

Gulabo Sitabo is the latest release on OTT platform following the pandemic. This amazing satirical comedy has been released on Amazon Prime. The film captures the cat and mouse game between the landlord and tenants in the happening city of Lucknow.

Mirza Sheikh (played by Amitabh Bachchan) is a 78 year old Monk, who has married a women who is 15 years elder than him for the sole purpose of capturing her mansion. His life is full of misery but dreams of owning the mansion one day after the happy demise of his wife ‘Begum Faatima’. However, God as well as his Begum have different plans.

The story begins when a toilet wall is broken by one of the tenants Baankey Rastogi (played by Ayusshman Khurana). Thus the cat and mouse game starts – for landlord to remove the tenants and for tenants to get an ownership of a Pucca House. To take side of Baankey, archaeological department comes into picture saying the mansion being more than 100 years old is of historical importance. While Mirza hires his own lawyer to remove the tenants. All the characters are looking for personal gain which shows the greedy side totally neglecting the humanity. But, the story with all the twists ends up differently. Who becomes the mansion owner, does anyone get a Pucca house or is the property declared as historical property?? Watch out to find out !!!

Amitabh Bachchan is exceptional with his low gruffy voice and greedy character. His acting is topnotch and he himself carries the burden of the whole movie. The prosthetics with his face totally blend in and he dwells himself in the character. Finest actor in Indian cinema.

Ayusshman Khurana with his arrogant and mediocre life is superb and his lisping adds to the flavor. Having three younger sisters and a middle class girlfriend, he is seen battling the day to day challenges and refusing to pay rent to landlord which is as low as Rs 30 per month. All the other supporting casts have done great but are over shadowed by master class of Amitabh Bachchan.

The direction by Shoojit Sircar is beyond imagination with Lucknow being captured effectively. The simple characters and lifestyle is portrayed brilliantly to bring the middle class flavor. The screenplay is on the slower side demanding audience’s patience. Overall totally relatable content with witty dialogues and comedy being part of it.

A common phenomenon in Indian society has been show cased cleverly with tenants refusing the increase the rent as well not vacating the property. The brilliance to spice this up with government intervention of gaining anything and everything, be it at any cost is class apart. It is very rare that you see movie being made on such genre with slow yet effective and sensible message.

The movie though being on slower side stays true to its content with second half being full of twists and tales. The songs blended into the script do not distract the viewer but enhances the experience with relatable and eye opening lyrics. Not for those who love action and fast paced movies.

But a must watch only for the greatness of Bachchan Saab and a watchable movie. With lockdown into effect, two hours for this drama is worthwhile.

Watch the trailer on YouTube here.
